- Have a "Plan B" - Summer weddings are undeniably the best among the flowers and beautiful weather. Not considering a "plan b," however, could have you celebrating in the middle of a summer rain shower. Have another venue option on standby for any last minute decisions.
- Fresh food options - Even if under a tent, your food choices should be highly considered as they sit in the warm sun. Choose foods and appetizers that are more fresh; items that are heavier, or need to be kept on ice, like dairy, spreads, cheeses, etc. should be avoided. Additionally, consider foods that will also give extra hydration (ie: watermelon, cucumbers, etc).
- Bugs...and sun...and sweat...Oh MY - It can be exhausting to be outside for hours on end, especially in your Sunday best. If you want your guests to stick around until the end, consider little extras to keep their time more comfortable. Travel size bottles of bug spray and sun screen, in individual packaging, are just the right touch. Water stations, or themed bottled water, will be a favorite as well.
- Dress to impress - watch what type of fabrics you choose for your wedding party. If you want them to enjoy your wedding as much as you will, choose fabrics that are lightweight and breathable, making it easy to spend all day in the sun while still looking their best.
- Cake Mess - your cake will melt in the warmth if you aren't particular about its details. Though there are many creamy, delicious frosting options, opt for a fondant cake that will hold up in the heat. After all, you're spending a small fortune on this edible delight - you better enjoy it!
- When the Clock Strikes... - spare your guests the lobster look and choose to have your wedding during a cooler part of the day. Mid-morning or late-afternoon ceremonies will allow your guests - and you! - to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors without melting under the heat. Bonus! Pictures are better in this lighting too!
- Tents or Shade - provide areas that will give shade for your guests. Tents for food tables are the obvious choice. However, consider large umbrellas with lounge seating, or a classy lean-to near a photo booth. Shaded areas don't have to be tacky, but are necessary for your guests' comfort.
- What about grandma? - depending on the location, traversing the terrain could be difficult for some of your guest demographic. Think outside the box with some great transportation options - bicycle cart, golf cart, horse drawn carriage, old sports car - your guests will thank you should hiking not be their favorite past time.
- Set up demand - many outdoor areas do not come with much of the set up taken for granted at an indoor venue. Sure, you'll have to rent chairs, tables and linens, but you'll also need to consider your audio visual equipment, private areas for your bridal party, restrooms for your guests, etc. An event planner can help you think through these extra needs.
- Hire an Event Planner! - with all the added details, and potential last minute changes with weather, you are going to need someone that can make these decisions for you during your wedding. The last thing a bride needs is the stress of logistics while trying to enjoy her big day. Hire someone you can partner with to make your visions come alive. Your event planner will keep all your vendors in order, handle all decisions/logistics, have people in the right place at the right time, and ultimately help the bride and groom celebrate STRESS FREE!
